Since 2006, Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter has stretched every inch of our current building to save lives. Every year, hundreds of lost, abandoned, and surrendered animals come through our doors — and the reality is clear: our small, aging facility can no longer meet the growing need.
We’ve outgrown our walls.
Now, it’s time to build a shelter designed for care, comfort, healing, and hope.
Progress So Far
This vision is already becoming a reality thanks to incredible community support:

Six beautiful acres have been generously donated by the City of Gainesville, on Moss Lake Road (FM 1201) here in Gainesville for our future home.
✔ Blueprint Complete
Architect-designed plans focused on animal wellness, stress reduction, efficient care, and long-term sustainability.
✔ Community Support Growing
With the help of donors and sponsors, we’ve already taken meaningful steps toward making this project possible.
Why a New Shelter is Needed
Our current shelter was never designed to serve the volume of animals we care for today, leaving us to operate within increasingly difficult constraints.
Overcrowding:
Overcrowding has severely limited the space available for vital recovery and enrichment, forcing dogs into small runs with little room to decompress and leaving cats without quiet, dedicated healing areas. Essential medical care is often performed in makeshift spaces, while our dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to provide high-quality care despite these physical limitations.
Aging Infrastructure:
Compounding these internal struggles are significant logistical hurdles: our facility is situated on a deteriorating road that can no longer sustain our daily traffic and is frequently blocked by train activity for hours at a time. As the aging building reaches its breaking point, the influx of animals never slows.
Despite these mounting physical and external challenges, our commitment to saving lives remains unwavering; however, a new shelter is essential to provide an environment that is safer, more efficient, and more humane for every animal in our care.

What the New Shelter Will Provide
Indoor / Outdoor Dog Runs
Moving beyond traditional cages, our new indoor/outdoor dog runs provide constant access to fresh air and the freedom to move, which is critical for physical health.
Cat Condos, Playrooms, and Outdoor Areas
Our specialized cat condos utilize vertical space to honor a cat’s natural instincts, while dedicated quiet zones prevent the "shelter shock" that often leads to illness in rescued felines.
Meet & Greet Adoption Rooms
The new shelter is designed to be a welcoming destination for Gainesville residents. By improving the visitor experience, we increase foot traffic and, ultimately, the number of lives saved through adoption.
Our private meet-and-greet rooms provide a living-room-like setting. This calm environment allows a pet’s true personality to shine, helping families make a deep, lasting connection without the distraction of a noisy kennel.
Outdoor Enrichment Yards
Our outdoor enrichment yards allow for supervised group play and socialization. This "pack time" is essential for maintaining a dog's social skills and reducing kennel-induced anxiety.
On-site medical and surgical spaces
By creating dedicated medical and surgical suites, we eliminate the stress and risk of transporting vulnerable animals to off-site clinics. This allows for immediate intervention and more efficient spay/neuter cycles.
We are moving away from makeshift medical corners. Our new clinical spaces are designed for sterile, quiet recovery, significantly shortening the time an animal needs to heal before becoming available for adoption.
Purpose-Built Housing
Beyond physical care, the facility is architecturally planned to lower cortisol levels through better ventilation and acoustic dampening, ensuring animals remain happy, calm, and "adoption-ready."
Building Toward The Future
Turning this vision into reality requires significant investment in planning, site preparation, and construction. The full project will exceed $1.5 million, and every contribution helps move us closer to breaking ground.
